how long information may be kept;
the rights you have.
It applies when you visit the website, contact us, subscribe to our newsletter, make a payment or supporter contribution, or use another feature provided through the website.
This policy reflects the UK General Data Protection Regulation, the Data Protection Act 2018, the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003.
3. Information we collect
The information we collect depends on how you use the website.
3.1 Information you give us
We may collect:
your name;
your email address;

your newsletter preferences;
payment and transaction information;
records of our communications with you.
Please do not send sensitive or unnecessary personal information through ordinary contact forms or email.

pages visited before arriving at this website;
the date and time of your visit;
general information about how the website is used.
Some information is needed for the website to work and remain secure. Other information is only collected where you have accepted non-essential cookies.
3.3 Information collected when you make a payment
If you make a payment or supporter contribution, we may receive:
your name;
your email address;
your billing details;
the amount and date of the payment;
transaction and payment-status information;
information needed to prevent fraud or deal with a payment problem.
We do not receive or store your complete payment-card details.
4. How and why we use information
We only use personal information where we have a lawful reason.
4.1 Operating and protecting the website
We use technical and usage information to:
provide the website;
keep it secure;
prevent fraud, abuse and technical problems;
understand and improve its general performance.
We rely on our legitimate interests in operating and protecting the website, together with consent where non-essential cookies are involved.
4.2 Responding to enquiries
We use the information you send us to:
answer questions;
provide requested information;
deal with support issues;
keep a record of our communications.
We normally rely on our legitimate interests in communicating with visitors and running Chapman Unfiltered.
Where an enquiry concerns something you may buy or another agreement, we may also use the information to take steps at your request before entering into a contract.
4.3 Sending newsletters
We use your email address and any name or preferences you provide to send newsletters and other Chapman Unfiltered updates where you have subscribed.
We rely on your consent.
4.4 Processing payments
We use payment and transaction information to:
process and record payments or supporter contributions;
send confirmations;
deal with payment queries, refunds or disputes;
prevent fraud;
meet tax, accounting and legal requirements.
Depending on the reason for the payment, we may rely on a contract, steps taken at your request, our legitimate interests or a legal obligation.
4.5 Legal and regulatory purposes
We may use or keep information where reasonably necessary to:
comply with the law;
respond to a lawful request from a court, regulator or public authority;
establish, exercise or defend legal rights;
deal with complaints or disputes.
We rely on legal obligations and our legitimate interests in protecting our rights.
5. Whether you have to provide information
You do not usually have to give us personal information.
However, if you do not provide information needed to answer an enquiry, manage a subscription or process a payment, we may be unable to complete that request.
6. Cookies
6.1 What cookies are
Cookies are small files stored on your device when you visit a website.
They can help a website work, remember choices, measure general website use and support connected services.
6.2 Essential cookies
Essential cookies are needed for the website and its basic features to work correctly.
They may be used without consent where the law allows because the service requested by the visitor cannot work properly without them.
6.3 Non-essential cookies
Non-essential cookies may be used for purposes such as:
analytics;
measuring website performance;
remembering optional preferences;
loading certain embedded content;
advertising or marketing, if these are added in the future.
Where consent is required, non-essential cookies will not be placed until you have made an appropriate choice.
6.4 Squarespace Cookie Banner
We use the Squarespace Cookie Banner to manage cookie consent.
The banner is configured to restrict non-essential Squarespace cookies until you choose whether to accept, reject or manage them.
After making a choice, you can change it using the cookie-management option shown on the website or through your browser settings.
Deleting or blocking cookies may cause some website features or embedded content to stop working correctly.
6.5 Cookies used by Squarespace
Because the website is built and hosted through Squarespace, Squarespace may use cookies for:
website security;
essential website functions;
visitor preferences;
website performance;
analytics;
email-campaign features;
payment features.
The exact cookies used may change when Squarespace updates its platform or when different website features are used.
7. Squarespace Analytics
We use Squarespace Analytics to understand general website activity, including:
visitor numbers;
page views;
traffic sources;
popular content;
browser and device information;
broad patterns in how the website is used.
This information helps us understand whether the website works properly and which content people find useful.
Where Squarespace Analytics uses non-essential cookies, those cookies are controlled through the Squarespace Cookie Banner.
We do not currently use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel or similar additional tracking services.
If additional analytics or tracking services are introduced, we will update this policy and the website’s cookie settings where required before using them.
8. Newsletter and email marketing
Our newsletter is managed through Squarespace Email Campaigns.
When you subscribe, Squarespace stores and processes the information needed to manage your subscription and send emails on our behalf.
Emails may include:
Chapman Unfiltered newsletters;
new articles or videos;
website updates;
information about future products, services or events;
occasional commercial or promotional content.
You can unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link included in each marketing email or by emailing hello@chapmanunfiltered.com.
Unsubscribing stops marketing emails. It does not prevent us from sending essential messages connected with an enquiry, payment, complaint or legal matter.
We may keep a minimal suppression record after you unsubscribe so that your address is not accidentally added back to the marketing list.
9. Payments and supporter contributions
Payments and voluntary supporter contributions made through the website are processed through Squarespace Payments and the payment and fraud-prevention services it uses.
Squarespace Payments currently uses third-party providers including:
Stripe for payment processing;
Sift for fraud monitoring and detection.
These services may receive personal information needed to process the payment, prevent fraud and meet their own legal obligations.
They process that information under their own privacy policies.
We do not sell, rent or trade payment information.
10. Embedded content and external websites
The website may contain embedded content, including YouTube videos, or links to other websites and platforms.
Embedded services may receive information such as:
your IP address;
browser, network and device information;
the page containing the embedded content;
information about how you interact with that content.
They may also use cookies or similar technologies.
Where these are non-essential, the content or related tracking may be restricted until you accept the relevant cookies.
If you follow a link to another website or platform, its own privacy and cookie policies apply. We do not control how another organisation handles your information.
11. Affiliate links, advertising and sponsorships
We do not currently use affiliate tracking, advertising cookies or marketing pixels on the website.
We may use affiliate links, sponsorships or advertising in the future. If this introduces new cookies or changes how personal information is handled, we will update this policy and the website’s consent settings where required.
Commercial relationships will also be disclosed where appropriate.
12. Who we share information with
We may share personal information with trusted providers where reasonably necessary to operate Chapman Unfiltered.
These may include providers of:
website hosting and management;
analytics;
email marketing;
payment processing;
fraud prevention;
cloud storage;
technical support;
legal, accounting or professional services.
Squarespace currently provides the website platform, hosting, analytics, cookie-consent tools, email-campaign services and payment features used by the website.
Squarespace may also use some website-usage information for its own platform, security and service-improvement purposes.
We may also disclose information:
where required by law;
in response to a valid request from a court, regulator or public authority;
to investigate fraud, misuse or security concerns;
to protect our rights, property or safety;
as part of a genuine sale, restructuring or transfer of the website or business.
We do not sell personal information or mailing lists.
13. International data transfers
Squarespace and other service providers may store or process personal information outside the United Kingdom.
Where UK law requires protection for an international transfer, the provider must use an approved legal safeguard. This may include:
transferring information to a country covered by UK adequacy regulations;
using an approved International Data Transfer Agreement;
using the UK Addendum to approved contractual clauses;
another lawful transfer safeguard.
You can contact hello@chapmanunfiltered.com for more information about the safeguards relevant to your information.
14. How long we keep information
We only keep personal information for as long as reasonably needed.
The period depends on:
why the information was collected;
whether an enquiry, payment, complaint or dispute remains active;
whether you remain subscribed to the newsletter;
tax, accounting or legal requirements;
fraud-prevention and security needs;
whether the information is needed to protect legal rights.
For example:
newsletter information is normally kept until you unsubscribe or the mailing list closes;
a minimal suppression record may be kept after you unsubscribe;
payment and accounting records are kept for the period required by law;
enquiry and complaint records may be kept for a reasonable period after the matter is closed;
analytics information is kept according to the settings and retention periods provided by Squarespace.
When information is no longer needed, it will be deleted or anonymised where reasonably possible.
15. Keeping information secure
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information against:
unauthorised access;
accidental loss;
misuse;
alteration;
unlawful disclosure;
destruction.
The website uses Squarespace’s hosted platform and security systems. Payment information is handled through services designed for secure online payments.
No website, email account or internet service can guarantee complete security.
16. Automated decisions
We do not use personal information to make decisions based entirely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
17. Your rights
Depending on the circumstances and the lawful reason being used, you may have the right to:
ask for a copy of your personal information;
ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
ask us to delete information;
ask us to restrict how information is used;
object to certain uses of your information;
withdraw consent;
receive certain information in a portable format;
complain about how your information has been handled.
These rights do not apply in every situation, and the law may allow or require us to keep certain information.
You will not normally have to pay to exercise these rights.
We will normally respond within one month, although the law allows more time in some circumstances.
To exercise a right, email hello@chapmanunfiltered.com. We may need to confirm your identity before completing the request.
17.1 Your right to object
You have the right to object at any time to the use of your personal information for direct marketing.
You may also object where we rely on legitimate interests, although we may continue using the information where the law allows and we have a strong lawful reason to do so.
17.2 Withdrawing consent
Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.
You can:
unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in each email;
change your cookie choices using the website’s cookie controls;
contact hello@chapmanunfiltered.com for other consent requests.
Withdrawing consent does not make anything lawfully done before the withdrawal invalid.
18. Data-protection complaints
If you believe we have handled your personal information incorrectly, you can make a data-protection complaint by emailing:
Please make it clear that your message is a data-protection complaint and explain:
what you believe has gone wrong;
any relevant dates or communications;
what you would like us to do.
We will:
acknowledge the complaint within 30 days;
investigate it appropriately;
keep you reasonably informed;
provide the outcome without undue delay.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK regulator for data protection.
